Fantastic Beasts 3 Collects $43m At Debut In The US

This weekend, "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" had a less-than-stellar North American debut of $43m on Sunday.

Fantastic Beasts’ record sales would be enough to dominate this season’s cinema charts and secure one of the largest North American debuts in 2022, even in the Covid 19 pandemic times. The third movie of the series,  The Secrets of Dumbledore, had the worst beginning of any Harry Potter-related film, thanks to poor reviews and rising disinterest toward prequel series hero Newt Scamander and the others in the movie.

The first movie of the Fantastic Beasts series debuted in North America at $74 million in 2016, while the second movie of the series, The Crimes of Grindelwald, debuted at $62 million in 2018.

Franchise Entertainment Research’s David A. Gross said Fantastic Beasts was never going to match Harry Potter’s success.”It was a once-in-a-generation phenomenon.” As author J.K. Rowling faces criticism over sex and gender identity issues, some of the early Potter sheens have faded. Gross, on the other hand, said the series is still doing well worldwide, which it would need to do given Covid’s $200 million production expenditures.

Fantastic Beasts 3 has also become a stronger draw for moviegoers in other countries. The Secrets of Dumbledore has made $193 million worldwide ever since its debut in many overseas countries last week. However, Covid-19’s tenacity has hurt the cinema in China, where half of the movie theatres are shuttered, and Russia Ukraine war has prevented the nation from seeing Hollywood films. All blockbusters have struggled with these restrictions. Only five motion pictures in Hollywood have grossed more than $500 million worldwide since the epidemic started in 2020.

The lack of passion for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a dilemma since sorcery and magic movies are not cheap to produce. The Secrets of Dumbledore cost Warner Bros. $200 million to make, and the production spent millions and millions more to advertise the picture to global viewers. The Secrets of Dumbledore, like its predecessors, will rely on overseas box offices to earn money throughout its theatrical run. Foreign sales accounted for approximately 75% of income during previous Fantastic Beasts instalments, which grossed $814 million and $650 million worldwide, correspondingly.
