First Pakistan International Film Festival to be held in March

A press conference was hosted by the Karachi Film Society on 11th January 2017 to give out details regarding the first ever International Film Festival. PiFF will be held from 29th March to 1st April in Karachi.

PIFF will screen features, short films and documentaries from Pakistan and around the world. They want to promote both Pakistani cinema and filmmakers by showcasing their films to diverse international audiences. The submission deadline for the film festival is 30th January 2018.

Dr. Ishrat Hussain, former Governor State Bank of Pakistan and member of KFS while expressing his views on the occasion said “The best way of projecting the image of your country is through an array of events – Art, music and cinema. KFS is a modest attempt to portray the real image of  Pakistan and showcase creativity of our artists”.

The internationally acclaimed and Oscar winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy explained how KFS will support and help the film fraternity and aspiring filmmakers mainly “ It will help young filmmakers to improve their technical skills and aspire to reach international standards of filmmaking eventually”.

“PiFF is not just a film festival. We want to push and support those people who don’t have the resources but are creative”, said president of KFS Sultana Siddiqui at the press conference.

Writer and producer Javed Jabbar, CEO Oxford University Press Ameena Saiyid, CEO Habib Metropolitan Bank Sirajuddin Aziz, CEO Nueplex Cinemas Jamil Baig, chairperson Special Olympics Pakistan Ronak Lakhani were also present at the press conference. Ayesha Omar and Sanam Saeed also graced the occasion with their presence.
