FM Qureshi: PDM Destined to Disintegrate

In a press conference on Wednesday, December 30, Foreign Minister (FM) Qureshi stated that the opposition alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) was unnatural and destined to disintegrate. These comments came after the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) announced to challenge the upcoming Senate elections. However, the PPP also approved almost all decisions of the PDM, including resigning from assemblies.

FM Qureshi maintained that had the PPP been serious in resigning from assemblies, they would not have desired to take part in the elections.

FM Qureshi reiterated that parties with different views from the PTI Government had gathered under the PDM umbrella with no democratic aims and with the purpose of securing  the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).

“The meeting of the PPP’s Central Executive Committee has made it clear that the PPP has withdrawn from the PDM’s narrative,” FM Qureshi added.

In a recent Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting held at the Bilawal House, the PPP decided to contest the PTI governments through no-confidence motions in the National Assembly, Punjab Assembly and others.

After the CEC meeting, Bilawal and other senior officials from the PPP addressed a press conference in which Bilawal said “We don’t backtrack on the PDM decisions made at the all parties conference (APC), but we want to send the selected and incompetent government of Imran Khan packing. If he does not resign till January 31, our deadline given to him, then we will kick him out.”

“I am sharing with you the decision of our CEC meeting, but final decision will be made with the consensus of the PDM leaders,” he added.

A source quoted Zardari’s statement from the CEC meeting, “Let’s mount pressure on the government by organising a long march and negotiate with the PTI coalition partners at Centre and in Punjab to bring the no-confidence motions. The resignations are the last option.”
