K-Electric Pens a Letter Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

In his letter, the CEO of K-Electric Moonis Alvi has noted down the special relief measure that he and his team have taken to "ensure ease and comfort for the residents of the city" in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the lock down began, only essential service employees were allowed to leave their houses and go to work – this included the energy sector, as they have to produce electricity not only for the economy to run, but also for the consumers at home. In Karachi, K-Electric employees have been working hard to ensure that our lifestyle doesn’t change too drastically during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to further reassure the customers, the CEO has written a letter.

CEO K-Electric: Moonis Alvi

In his letter, the CEO of K-Electric Moonis Alvi has noted down the special relief measure that he and his team have taken to “ensure ease and comfort for the residents of the city” in the COVID-19 pandemic. These were taken to ensure that people practice social distancing and stay at home as much as possible. The measures include:

  • Providing uninterrupted power 24/7 all across Karachi – this includes exempting even the areas where there is 80% power theft from scheduled load shedding, and in case of an electricity outage, everyone is requested to contact the company at 118 or through their website.
  • Easier to pay bills (residential) – not only is the company easing up on the due date, but they are also providing a three month installment option for the most economically vulnerable residents of the city; they have also improved their online facilitation for the customers’ ease, and in the case where meter reading is not safe or possible, they will be billing the lower average amount.
  • Relief to Industry and Commerce – they have deferred the ISPA for zero-rated industries till the end of April, and are only billing the minimum charges for premises closed during lock down.
  • Supporting Hospitals that are treating people – the company is providing subsidised electricity to all key hospitals and medical facilities, and are prioritising power supply to hospitals and quarantine facilities too.
  • Ensuring employees stay safe while they work – the energy company has adjusted the shift patterns to ensure the optimum protection of their employees, provided residence for their teams in the accommodations on site, isolated their critical sites, and provided their field teams with safety kits.

CEO K-Electric ended his letter by showing his appreciation for all frontline workers, and wished that everyone stayed safe and stayed at homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
