Pakistan and Bangladesh working on Establishing better Trade Ties

A meeting took place to highlight the importance of Bangladesh's relation with Pakistan and the deep historic ties between both countries.

A meeting that involved the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry(RCCI) President Mohammad Nasir Mirza took place to highlight the importance of Bangladesh’s relation with Pakistan and the deep historic ties between both countries.

He claimed that trade opportunities between Pakistan and Bangladesh should be explored in potential sectors such as construction material, surgical goods, sports goods, food processing, cotton yarn, tourism, light engineering, and the pharmaceutical sector.

The High Commissioner Ruhul Alam Siddique of Bangladesh added that trade between both countries had always been profitable for Pakistan, which stood at $700 million while the exports for Bangladesh to Pakistan stood at just $50 million.

Siddique assured the businessmen present in the meeting that his office was ready to provide all kinds of assistance to the traders seeking a Bangladesh visa. The envoy met previously for a Joint Economic Cooperation meeting held in 2007 where it was suggested that bilateral trade ties could only be enhanced with the help of regular meetings on trade.

RCCI President Nasir Mirza said Bangladesh was an important member of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) bloc and the chamber was ready to cooperate in the exchange for delegations and holding bilateral business conferences. Mirza also added that identifying the areas of cooperation between the two sides would enable bilateral ties in the fields of tourism, education, agriculture, IT, and pharmaceutical.

“Bangladeshi investors can take advantage of investment opportunities in Pakistan,” he emphasized.
