The World Should ‘OBSERVE’ Kashmir Martyr Day
On every 13th July, since 1931, the world is observing Kashmir Martyr Day, but is it worth it? I doubt.
Several events have taken place in the past, which are remembered even today. Be it Pak-Ind partition, or be it the attack of 9/11, people observe the day whole-heartedly. And why does one observe a day? A day is observed so that people don’t forget what happened on that day. And their sympathies go out for the people who were victims of those incidents. The significance of the day also makes it important that no such action/reaction takes place in the coming future. However, that is actually not the case with Kashmir.
On 13th July 2020, the world is observing Kashmir Martyr Day. In 1931, 22 Kashmiris were killed in riots and atrocities. Since then, the day has been observed all around. But now, thousands of Kashmiris are being killed, and that too, by the Indian Forces, but no one is paying much heed. The issue is of utmost importance to the Pakistani and Indian Government. Why? Because it is of utmost requirement to their own interests.
It is saddening to see that International Media has not yet put this Kashmir under their priority list. Neither has the United Nations or the United States of America. If they don’t interrupt as soon as possible, there would be more of such days to be observed globally. These people, killed ar not involving themselves in riots. Instead, these are innocent civilians who are demanding to live a free and happy life. A life, that doesn’t involve war or India or even Pakistan for the sake of peace and harmony. They want to be on their own, and they should be left on their own. It is yet to see, when Kashmiris are going to see such a day.
