Transgender Community vs. Bani Gala Police

After police released the man suspected of killing people of the transgender community, the trans residents of Rawalpindi staged a sit-in protest against the Bani Gala Police.

Members of the transgender community filed complaints against Nauman and his henchmen for attempts of murder. However, in their defence, the police asserted that charge sheets cannot be formulated based on mere accusations.

People of the community revealed that although the police collected evidence from the crime scene, they still released the suspects terming them as innocent. A member of the community, Fouzia Pathani revealed that they had filed several complaints to DSP Waris Khan yet they released the perpetrators. Steadfast to seek justice, Fouzia Pathani and other transgenders have stated that they will continue their sit-in protest. Moreover, they have also demanded Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Police Inspector General to take notice of the crime.

Regardless of the lodged complaints, Rawal Division SP Rai Mazhar Iqbal stated that they had failed to justify their accusations against the alleged assailants. The recently set up transgender protection centre is carrying further investigation in the matter to bring justice to the victims and the community.
SP Iqbal also said that the sit-in protest is unwarranted and warned the transgenders that the police will have no choice but to take strict action against the community if their complaints turn out to be false.
