Catching Fire is the sequel of the Hunger Games. “A spark could be enough to set them ablaze.” Indeed, Katniss and Peeta’s actions have made a spark in Panem. A spark that could lead to rebellion, which has the eccentric President Snow anxious.

Living a life that she could only have dreamed of in the Victor’s Village, Katniss and Peeta are still pressured to play star-crossed lovers for their tour across the Districts.

As the entire nation isn’t fooled by their supposed romance, the two Victors live in fear of being exposed. President Snow has eyes on Katniss especially.

“I have a problem, Miss Everdeen,’ says President Snow. ‘A problem that began the moment you pulled out those poisonous berries in the arena.”

On the Victory Tour, Katniss and Peeta see the outcome of their actions. The riots are the beginning of a massive rebellion. The two Victor’s job is to act according to the plan made by their mentor Haymitch Abernathy.

“‘Only you’ll have to do even better if the uprisings are to be averted,’ he says. ‘This tour will be your only chance to turn things around.’”

Katniss resists the urge to speak her mind in front of the people, instead she reads out the monotonous speeches that Effie Trinket gives.

Time passes after their tour of Panem and it is time for the Quarter Quell. And President Snow’s announcement has the nation perplexed, but Katniss is impotent like the rest.

“Sometimes things happen to people and they’re not equipped to deal with them.”

The rebellion has begun and Katniss is the Capitol’s main target.

Catching Fire

“I can only form one clear thought.

This is no place for a girl on fire.”

Suzanne Collins takes us deeper into the world of Panem with the sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire. The book is full of angst, empowerment and twists that won’t let you put the book down.

“You’ve got to go through it to get to the end of it.”
