Coping with Anxiety during Coronavirus

Ways to cope up with anxiety disorder during the global pandemic of Corona Virus. Tips to help friends, family or acquaintance dealing with anxiety.

The world is unified against this major monster murderer disease Covid 19 (Corona Virus), while it openly attacks causing physical illness on patients it also sneaks up on people with mental illnesses. Patients of anxiety are tipped off with the widespread of news on coronavirus.
Anxiety is a nervous disorder that causes frequent and repetitive feelings of worry, apprehension, and fear. People experience anxiety differently, and it is separate from the occasional worries that affect the general population. A person can feel anxious and not have anxiety.

Do you happen to know someone who has an anxiety disorder or may have symptoms of anxiety? Here is my list of things you can do to help your friend, family or acquaintance dealing with an anxiety disorder in this time of the global pandemic. In this tough time help people that are too afraid to ask for help themselves.

  1. Do not talk about the pandemic unless extremely necessary; constantly talking about this worrisome issue may tick off their anxiety level a little more than usual for people dealing with anxiety.
  2. If someone is talking about the negatives of Corona Virus, i.e. the corona positive cases, also mention the positives, as the cases recovered. This helps them in not unnecessarily thinking about the negatives.
  3. Help them by understanding what their main concern about this pandemic is, they may not solely be worried about getting affected by this disease instead they might be over-thinking on other issues like the crash of the stock market affecting their future monetary issues.
  4. Try to continuously check-up on them; however, don’t constantly talk about the disease. Instead, try engaging them in other conversations to help them divert their minds from the current issue.
  5. Refrain from sharing the increasing numbers or any numerical values, digits may not bother every one suffering from this disorder however taking such risks may cause them to have an anxiety attack.
  6. Staying indoors means isolation, do not stay in physical contact with them but always assure them that you’re always there to be reached out to
  7. Create a routine for them, again engaging them in activities or creating a sense of productivity will help in reducing their anxiety.
  8. Engage in other activities, like playing multiplayer online games, or doing a project together while video calling or even working out with them. This will get their blood flowing and they will coherently feel a sense of productiveness.
  9. Remind them to constantly drink water and you should stay hydrated too, this doesn’t just help the anxiety but also helps you get better skin. Win-win!
  10. The constant connection will strengthen their bond with you and it will also give them a sense of security knowing there is someone that cares and is there for them.
  11. Use this time to watch all the Netflix series, through Netflix party, you and your friend can catch up on all the missed shows. This will help again as their mind will be diverted and they’ll have a sense of belonging.
